Fort Calgary To Undergo Renewal and Revitalization

Yesterday, officials from all levels of government helped turn the sod at Fort Calgary, marking the first phase of Fort Calgary’s expansion and revitalization project.

The project was initially conceived 13 years ago, when the Fort Calgary Board of Directors recognized the need to protect and preserve the birthplace of Calgary. Joan Crockatt, M.P. for Calgary-Centre says, “It is essential that we preserve this vital place of our shared history, to help us and our future generations learn about the importance of what went on in the building of this nation.”

The first phase of the project is already underway, which includes the restoration of the Hunt House and the rehabilitation of the Deane House, and improvements to the surrounding community park. The second and third phases of the project will include the building of an interpretive exhibit on the original site where the city was born.

All three phases of the project should be completed over the next three years.

Fort Calgary is located at 750 9 Ave. S.E. Visit fortcalgary.com for more information.
