A whole new group of Calgarians joined the Top 40 Under 40 ranks Tuesday night, as friends, family, alumni and Mayor Nenshi came out to celebrate their achievements at Avenue's 2016 Top 40 Under 40 gala.

With more than 550 guests, it was a packed house as honourees and guests spent the evening mingling in the Jack Singer lobby at Arts Commons. Known for hosting some of Calgary's most exquisite galas, it was a perfect fit to once again celebrate the Top 40 Under 40s.

Mayor Nenshi, a Top 40 alumni himself, addressed the crowd at the 2016 Top 40 Under 40 Gala.

Local singer Ruben Young kicked off the evening's formal presentation with his vintage-soul and contemporary R&B voice. Emcee Erin Strate, host and producer of Shaw TV Calgary's GO!, introduced the Top 40 Under 40 Class of 2016 honourees following Mayor Naheed Nenshi's address to the crowd — this year marked his own 11-year anniversary since being named a Top 40 in 2005. The Top 40s posed for a group photo, and DJ Egypt closed the presentation with his original beats.

This year’s Top 40 Class was comprised of 46 people due to three duos and one trio who were co-honourees. It’s also the first year with equal male and female honourees.
