Finding a Voice

Artist Siva Pillay uses a variety of media, including drawings, paintings and lithographs to express his emotions, and sees his work as a “tool for explaining and talking.” The 41-year-old artist has dyslexia and always had trouble expressing himself via the written word.

His artwork is, according to him, “a medium for explaining things [he’s] interested in and wants to share,” — things he might have trouble articulating otherwise because of his learning disability.

Pillay studied art at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Vancouver’s Langara Community College and the University of British Columbia.

This month, he is the artist in residence at Art Central, where he will be displaying his variety of work, including a book of lithographs he created at the Alberta Print Makers Society especially for his residency. For more examples of his work, visit
