8 Best Late Night Spots for Good Eats

The growlies can strike at any time and sometimes you want something better than fast food.

If it’s past the traditional dining hour and you’re craving something to eat that’s a bit more elevated than a donair or fast food burger, here are some spots that serve fine fare and drink in a sit-down atmosphere.

Anejo

With the boozy tequila-forward cocktail menu here, it would only be smart to dive into the Mexican fare here while you’re sipping away. The guacamole, made tableside and served with fresh tortilla chips, will never let you down.

Bensonhurst Pizza Co.

The newest dining addition to 17th Avenue S.W. is open late and dishes out more styles of pizza than a hungry Friday night-er could wish for. If, for whatever reason you suddenly decide it is past your bedtime, then, of course, Bensonhurst offers all of its pizzas to go.

Charcut

If you’re craving some charcurterie, cocktails or well-paired beers, Charcut is there for you. The menu is shifting to some new dishes for the spring, but perennial favourites like the pig’s head mortadella will be sticking around.

(899 Centre St. S., 403-984-2180, charcut.com, @charcut)

The Libertine

With a decent selection of microbrews and recently much-improved menu by chef Mel Lafleur, this gastropub on Stephen Avenue offers up anything from an elk burger with mushroom ragout and blue cheese (delicious, by the way) to flatbreads and pastas to keep you happily full.

(223 8 Ave. S.W., 403-265-3665, thelibertine.ca,@libertinepublic)

Model Milk

It’s hard to make a list of late night eats and not have this spot on it. Though you might be popping by for dinner earlier in the evening with a table full of rabbit mortadella, calamari, fried chicken et al., the cocktails might make you want to stick around longer than you expected. When you start craving another little bite, the late night menu will be there…

Oak Tree Tavern

This upper level pub on 10th Street N.W. dishes out good, honest, made-from-scratch pub food that hits the spot. There’s always some sort of event happening here (be it live music or stand-up comedy), so you’ll probably be able to catch the tail end of some entertainment while grabbing a bite.

Pizza Bob’s

A little off the beaten path, on the corner of Memorial Drive and Kensington Road N.W., you’ll almost always open the doors to find this wood-fired pizza place buzzing. With karaoke in the corner, you might even have time for a song before your food hits the table. Definitely an experience.

Una Pizza

It’s almost better keep your hunger at bay earlier in the evening and swing by Una later on at night when the line-up has dwindled. A popular spot for industry folks who just got off work, you’ll often see a recognisable chef or two saddled up to the bar with a slice of pizza in one hand and a glass of wine in the other.
