The top 3 from Avenue Calgary's 2014 Best Restaurant Awards.
1. Candela [now closed]
The international flavours on the tapas plates that come from Candela’s kitchen are a perfect match to the equally inspired decor. The clusters of Moroccan, hand-punched chandeliers in the private dining room appear to come straight from the soul. From the massive skylight over the bar that centres the space — ringed by blue tufted leather stools — to the rich wood and shades of blue and orange, the restaurant is luxe, yet inviting, making the idea of lounging the night away very alluring.
Behind the bright yellow door and past the life-sized horse statue is a space that is both playful and imaginative, with couches that evoke cable-knit sweaters and with antique window shutters salvaged in Belgium on the wall.
