1. Catch Restaurant & The Oyster Bar

After a huge reno in 2011, Catch is back at the top of its game. From the lobster chowder and tuna burger in its lively main-floor Oyster Bar, to the whole-roasted sea bream and blackened swordfish with grits in its classic second-floor restaurant, Catch’s seafood is prepared perfectly. Catch follows the Ocean Wise program, serving only sustainable seafood. And, for the total landlubber, the place is pretty good at doing steaks, too.


2. Big Fish

You can count on chef and owner Dwayne Ennest to do up his seafood the unpretentious way: inventive, hearty and packed with flavour, whether it’s the pan roasted Manitoba Walleye with wilted spinach, crispy pancetta and pinenuts, or the Asian-style halibut hot pot. A great sharing platter is the spread of smoked oysters, house-cured salmon pate, candied trout jerky and smoked trout and mackerel. Swing by Monday night for two-for-one oysters by the dozen. The dining room and vibe is casual and comfortable.


3. Mimo Restaurant and Lounge [tied]

Seafood done Azores-style is what you’ll find at Mimo, Calgary’s only Portuguese restaurant. Sultry paellas, spicy squid and pork and clams with crisp vinho verde keep me coming back.


3. Murrieta's Bar & Grill

The cool, sophisticated vibe in this dining room, highlighted by light streaming in from the giant skylight, is the perfect place to enjoy West Coast-inspired seafood selections that are so fresh you’ll think you’re dining near the ocean and not on land-locked Stephen Avenue.
