In June, we wrote about six new patios Calgarians should try to visit this summer. But if your appetite for alfresco dining hasn’t been whetted yet, there are at least 10 more restaurants that recently opened a new patio for the 2017 summer season.
1918 Tap & Table
1918 Tap and Table opened on the main level of the new Kensington Legion building in West Hillhurst in June. Its 56-seat patio is the perfect spot to try the restaurant’s seasonal menu, which will change almost entirely every three months. Stop by to try current menu items like the crispy pork belly and the Alberta beef chuck burger.

5s17
The patio scene on 17 Ave. S.W. got a new addition in late May. 5s17’s wood patio is small but perfectly situated if you feel like doing some people watching. Take a load off on the bench seating and tuck into some ramen, poke, Japanese burritos and more.

Calcutta Cricket Club
Calcutta Cricket Club only opened at the beginning of July, but its two patios are already destined to become fast favourites. The 10-seat patio at the front of the restaurant looks out onto 17 Ave. S.W., and offers a funky vibe thanks to the straw umbrellas, planters and the restaurant’s bright green facade. The approximately 50-seat back patio is actually located along the east side of the restaurant, and features floral table cloths, colourful blankets covering the bench seating and tons of green plants. CCC kept the cast iron boiler doors at the front of the patio, which provide just the right amount of privacy from the busy sidewalk.

Jane Bond BBQ
Delicious barbecued food and sunny patios go together perfectly, so why not enjoy both at Jane Bond BBQ in Forest Lawn. Attached to the front of the restaurant, the south-west facing patio seats 20 people and has a mixture of bench and chair seating. The patio just opened last week, but will eventually have strings of lights, planters and umbrellas for some shade.

Oxbow
If you’re planning to dine at Oxbow in the Kensington Riverside Inn, you can now try out its new main-level patio. Overlooking Memorial Drive, the patio offers plenty of people-watching opportunities thanks to a glass wall that separates it from the sidewalk area. The patio seats around 15 people and features some lovely greenery.

Prohibition Freehouse
When Prohibition Freehouse took over the space formerly occupied by Molly Malone’s in Kensington, they also inherited its excellent rooftop patio. Along with an excellent view of the neighbourhood, the patio has heaters, strings of lights and planters to keep the vibe festive. Plan your visit around its Buck-a-Ball deal on Wednesdays, when you can get as many pork meatballs with tomato sauce as you want for only $1 each.

Seed N Salt
Soak up some sun while dining on a healthy salad or bowl at Seed N Salt. While this new grab-and-go eatery in Mission has a beautiful interior, its west-facing patio at the front of the restaurant is just as nice to spend time on.

Shokunin
Pair your Japanese small plates with some sake on Shokunin’s new west-facing patio. It features a mix of bar seating, two-person tables and picnic bench-style tables. There are also black and white umbrellas to provide some shade while you eat.

Tavernetta
The newly opened Tavernetta combines the atmosphere of a comfortable backyard patio setting with top notch Italian eats. Situated underneath shady trees behind the restaurant, the patio seating is spread out over a mix of stone and grassy areas and is surrounded by a wooden fence that makes the patio feel private but not isolated. Strings of lights complete the cozy atmosphere.

The Mission
The Mission (appropriately located in the Mission neighbourhood) added a patio to the south side of the restaurant in May. It has a mix of bench and chair seating, with comfy pillows on the bench side. Strings of lights hanging from the wooden pergola above the patio, making this a particularly beautiful spot when it gets dark.
