5 International Meat Dishes

Meat dishes from across the globe, available right here in Calgary.

When it’s warm outside, eating meat just makes sense. There are plenty of barbecue joints in the city, but we’re lucky to have several tasty international options, from Caribbean jerk to Greek lamb, to get our meat fix as well. With Father’s Day just around the corner, hopefully this list gives you some food for thought for where to take your meat-loving dad.

Simply Irie Caribbean Cuisine

Simply Irie Caribbean Cuisine is in the old Chocolate Bar caf location on 17 Avenue S.W. Bring some heat to your taste buds and order a plate of Simply Irie’s jerk chicken, spicy and smoky seasoned chicken, served with rice and peas and a ginger beer to wash it down.

Inti Modern Peruvian

If you’ve never tried Peruvian cuisine, Inti is a must-visit. Order the brasa chicken, slow-roasted pulled chicken with a surprisingly spicy pimento sauce, served on a pillowy soft bun. The yuca frita, fried cassava, are starchy and tasty. Inti also offers a daily buffet.

Sun’s BBQ

Sun’s BBQ has many options for adventurous eaters. For lunch, the BBQ combo is a good bet, choose from roast duck, soy sauce chicken, roast pig and more, served with rice, soup and vegetables. Or, order a plate of the crispy chicken with garlic, chili and black bean, the chicken chunks are crunchy and a little chewy with cartilage, but are incredibly flavourful.

Santorini Greek Taverna

Santorini has multiple lamb options on its menu. Try the brizoles, succulent brolied lamb chops, or the arni psito, a rack of juicy lamb. Seafood fans can choose Santorini’s seafood platter for two, which comes piled high with halibut, salmon, prawns and scallops.

Seoul BBQ Restaurant

Seoul BBQ Restaurant has an all-you-can-eat menu that includes nine meat options as well as sides. You can cook the meat yourself on grills set in the tables, which is pretty fun with a big group, or ask the kitchen to cook it for you. Options include pork belly, beef short ribs and seasoned rib eye.
