Not to be confused with Cibo on 17th Avenue, Via Cibo is following the success of its Toronto-based restaurant with a second Canadian location here in Deerfoot Meadows. Inspired by Italy’s al fresco dining scene (via cibo means “street food” in Italian), the menu includes offerings such as Piadina flat bread sandwiches made in house, fresh salads and side orders of soup, Italian-style poutine or Tuscan fries, all prepared in an open kitchen.

Via Cibo’s Main Menu

Executive chef Steven Rego, who has worked in the kitchens of Ontario’s Rogues, Alioli and Lowville Bistro, has created an authentic Italian menu using local ingredients as much as possible. In addition to Piadinas, salads and sides, the menu includes sausages, meatballs and Via Cibo’s signature dish, house made osso buco (off the bone) served with a choice of penne or linguine pasta or panino-style with Calabrese bread.

Traditional Neapolitan pizzas are prepared using Caputo “00” flour, and then baked in an impressive bright red, mosaic-tiled wood-burning pizza oven. Gluten-free pasta is already on the menu and managing partner Tabrez Mulji says the next step is to introduce a gluten-free pizza.

Via Cibo’s Dessert Menu

The dessert selection is kept to a simple yet delicious choice of locally made Fiasco Gelato or a triple-decker brownie.

The Atmosphere

Mulji describes the dining experience as fast and casual, with a focus on delivering high-end food at a reasonable price. Service is swift with an average wait time of around seven minutes. Place your order at the counter, take a number and staff will bring the meal to your table.

Just a short distance from Ikea and Costco, and with a selection of beverages including Italian sodas, wine, beer and espresso coffee, Via Cibo is a great place to relax and grab a quick bite after a hard day.
