Cafe 16 opens in Tuxedo Park

Grab some friends and head to the newly opened Cafe 16 in Tuxedo Park. The cafe, which celebrated its grand opening on April 16, offers a sleek, casual space with plenty of seating. If you're in the mood for something savoury, try some Asian street food-inspired fare such as spring rolls, dumplings, noodle soups, rice dishes, wings, hot pot and more. Those hoping for dessert won't be disappointed either, with options like matcha, mango or chocolate bubble waffles and flavoured shaved ice with toppings like tapioca pearls. Wash it all down with a freshly made milk tea with real milk, a smoothie or an Italian soda, all available in a range of flavours.

Carnival Cocktails for Cancer fundraiser returns to Hotel Arts for a third year

Support a worthy cause while sipping delicious cocktails at this year's edition of Carnival Cocktails for Cancer. The local fundraising event, which supports the Canadian Cancer Society, is going to be bigger and better than ever this year when it takes over the Hotel Arts on May 28th. Along with a silent auction and DJ entertainment, there will be tasty dishes and cocktails with a carnival theme from local restaurants such as Ten Foot Henry, Native Tongues Taqueria, Proof, Bar Von Der Fels and more. Empire Poke offers poke delivery service to Calgarians

​The next time you're craving a bowl of poke, you can get it delivered right to your door. Empire Poke recently launched in Calgary, and the service allows customers to place poke orders that will be delivered in the evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The menu features four different kinds of poke: salmon poke, tuna poke, tofu poke, and a salmon and tuna poke. You can also order dishes such as black pepper beef, sweet chili chicken, baked salmon, teriyaki tofu and more.


Kensington Wine Market reaches its 25th anniversary this month

For the past 25 years, Kensington Wine Market has been one of the best places in the city to get your hands on high quality wine, beer, whisky and other spirits. This month, take part in the store's silver anniversary celebrations, which include in-store tasting events on May 18 and 19 and a weekend-long birthday sale from May 19 to 21. Visit for more information on the store's anniversary events.


Ox & Angela closes, re-opens as Ox Bar de Tapas

For almost six years, Spanish tapas restaurant Ox & Angela has been a popular dining destination on 17 Ave. S.W. But in mid-March, the restaurant announced that it was closing its doors, and a little more than a month later, the space was re-opened as Ox Bar de Tapas. Capturing a more casual Spanish vibe, Ox Bar de Tapas has a bright, refreshed interior thanks to its new design by FRANK Architecture and Interiors. The wall that once separated the "Ox"-themed side from the "Angela"-themed side of the restaurant is now gone, leaving a much more open space that lets in natural light. Kai Salimaki, formerly of The Block Kitchen & Lounge, is the restaurant's new executive chef. While some popular Ox & Angela dishes like the patatas bravas and fried chicken remain on the menu, Salimaki has also introduced several more traditional Spanish dishes to the menu, including croquetas and panfried octopus. The wine program and gin and sherry based cocktail program remain similar to Ox & Angela's. But one of the best parts of Ox Bar de Tapas is the introduction of high top happy hour: every day from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., guests who choose to sit at the restaurant's high top table, the barrels or the bar can get all their drinks and food for half price.

Rodney's Oyster House now offers brunch on Saturdays

Rodney's Oyster House is the latest Calgary restaurant to start serving brunch. As of May 6th, hungry diners can now stop by on Saturdays between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to try one of the five different kinds of eggs benedict (which includes a poached lobster, breaded crab cake and maple back bacon version), an avocado breakfast salad or apple and cinnamon French toast.


Ruca's opens in Acadia

Ruca's, a new bakery in the Acadia Shopping Centre, recently celebrated its grand opening on April 29th. Quality is a priority at Ruca's, where they make European-style baked goods such as baguettes, buns, sourdough bread, cachitos (ham and cheese rolls), cinnamon roll cake, pastries and more using fresh ingredients. While you're there, you can also grab a cup of coffee and products like caramel sauce or chocolate ganache for your won baking home.

Starbelly Open Kitchen + Lounge has a new happy hour food menu

The next time you visit Starbelly Open Kitchen + Lounge during its happy hour (offered daily from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.), you may notice a few changes to the menu. While its happy hour deals on beer, cocktails and wine remain the same, the Seton restaurant has a new happy hour food menu that features smoked hot wings, pork belly tacos, cauliflower buffalo wings and braised lamb ribs.
