You might want to clear your schedule on May 27 and 28 because PARKSHOW 2016 presented by CF Chinook Centre is giving Calgary a taste of Miami with two unique runway shows featuring 15 emerging designers. Organized by PARK (Promoting Artists, Redefining Kulture), PARKSHOW gives these designers a venue to show off and sell their work, and all profits from ticket sales go towards helping to promote and educate Canada’s fashion design talent.
The show on Friday, May 27 will feature lineups of summery, casual looks while Saturday will showcase couture fashions. Dior and PARK will be taking over the court in front of Nordstrom to provide a backstage experience with makeup appointments for the public on the days of the shows and guests can get hair touch-ups from Hedkandi Salon and Johnny’s Barber + Shop at the show.
The venue at Chinook Centre will be given a hot Miami treatment by renowned Alberta event planner and florist Cory Christopher, along with PARK and several local collaborating artists. Installation artwork inspired by Miami’s Wynwood Walls will cover the walls of CF Chinook Centre and several Calgary artists will be using the Microsoft Surface to live-sketch the show. American Apparel will be transformed into a lounge where you can take in all the culture while sipping Miami-inspired drinks. Just don’t mistake that one guy wearing his Ray Bans indoors for Pitbull.
VIP tier I tickets for Saturday’s show are already sold out, but Saturday tier II and both levels for Friday’s show are still available. PARK hints that you won’t want to miss out on this year’s luxury VIP gift bags, and to make sure you get a great view of the catwalk, they're offering 15% off tickets for Avenue readers. In true PARK style, PARKSHOW’s Miami photoshoot by Jason Eng was all-Canadian with Alberta model Reid Kastyn flying in from New York to help promote Canada’s growing fashion scene. Here are some of the campaign photos you might not have seen.
