5 Things to Love About Currie

Find new lots and excellent amenities in southwest Calgary’s inner city community destination.

Currie is a purposefully designed community with everything that’s needed to live a satisfying, healthy and modern lifestyle. Built on the site of the former Currie Barracks, this urban southwest Calgary gem is only a seven-minute drive or a brief 15-minute bike ride to downtown Calgary, and an easy 25-minute drive to The Calgary International Airport. It’s an oasis of modern life that effortlessly connects you to everything you love about Calgary. Here are five things that make this community remarkable.

Green space

Going over and above the City of Calgary’s green space requirement, Currie is surrounded by lush green landscaping and walking trails that give inner city living a breath of fresh air. Through the regional path system, residents can easily connect to the Glenmore Reservoir and the Weaselhead Recreation Area, some of the most unique ecosystems in Calgary.

A range of housing styles

Selecting only the highest quality and most innovative builders to partner with, Currie offers various housing styles for any stage of life, from condominiums and town homes to single-family. Currie’s current builder group includes Slokker-West Homes, Jayman Modus, Empire Custom Homes, Cove Properties, Crystal Creek Homes, Statesman and Homes by Avi. Crystal Creek Homes just released a limited number of single-family lots that are now available for purchase in Currie’s newest phase.

Continuous growth

Currie has been busy installing services and utilities throughout the community to ensure future development starts with a strong foundation. “We’ve been putting in the time and resources to ensure Currie is prepared for the future,” says Chris Elkey, regional director of real estate in Alberta for Currie’s developer, Canada Lands Company. In the past couple of years, the developer has completed the Flanders Avenue interchange, installed underground utilities and built roads to support development of single family, townhouse, multifamily, and mixed-use phases in the project. “We’re excited and prepared for what’s next in Currie,” Elkey says.

Culture and character

Currie hosted the 2017 Circle Calgary event last September, which welcomed food trucks, activities for all ages and a full concert series. “Currie’s central location and outdoor spaces make it a great venue to host Calgary events,” Elkey says. “We love seeing families and Calgarians of all ages experiencing the community and getting to know what we’ve built here as well as what’s coming.”

With eight heritage buildings and 11 heritage sites, a thoughtful, holistic urban design approach is apparent in every corner of Currie. Particular emphasis has been placed on creating human comfort, a sense of community, and architecture and landscaping that’s aesthetically pleasing.

More to come

With Statesman Group’s revitalization of the Officer Mess Hall and the Officer Mess Gardens, Currie residents will soon enjoy new amenities. When it’s completed, Currie is expected to accommodate 5,700 housing units, 245,000 sq.ft. of retail and about 615,000 sq.ft. of office space.

Whether you are looking to put down stakes or transform your life in Calgary, Currie is an ideal vantage point. With work and play working in a harmonious balance, residents are sure to fall in love with their new life at Currie.
