9 Reasons to Escape the City and Head into the West Country

Head northwest to Sundre this summer and experience a new set of adventures.

Calgarians love the mountains. In the summertime, city-dwellers flock outdoors to experience the rivers, trees, wildlife and grand vistas that are perfect to take epic photographs of.

The National Parks are free this year in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Canadian confederation, which means they’ll be crowded and busy. And chances are you’ll get stuck in a traffic jam of people trying to take a photograph of a deer. But this doesn’t have to be your experience. Instead, visit Sundre and the West Country.

The growing outdoor mecca of Sundre, Alberta is a 90-minute drive northwest of downtown Calgary. The little town of about 3,000 punches above its weight economically. It’s also a booming tourism destination thanks to the myriad of things to do and the success of its #ExploreSundre campaign.  If you’re looking for an outdoor adventure outside the ordinary make a trip to Sundre and the West Country part of your plans.
