The 24th annual Climb and 13th annual Run for Wilderness will be held on April 18 this year and will see hundreds of people running and jostling each other across the base of the Calgary Tower and up hundreds of stairs in order to raise funds for the Alberta Wilderness Association. Here are a few numbers to consider if you’re thinking about taking up the challenge.

802

Number of steps participants climb to get to the top of the Calgary Tower. The Run for Wilderness adds a one-km course around the base of the tower.

191

Height, in metres, of the Calgary Tower.

23

Age, in months, of Josephine Dawson, the youngest person to climb the full flight of stairs.

97

Age, in years, of Richard Guy, the oldest person to climb the stairs. Guy also happens to be a professor emeritus at the University of Calgary and one of the top game theory mathematicians in the world. His 2014 climb raised $5,855.

$6,532

Amount raised by Bill Overend in the 2014 event, setting a record for most funds raised by an individual climber.

31

Number of times Jonathan Heinz climbed the tower in 2011, the current record. He also holds the record for fastest time at seven minutes, 50 seconds.

1,448

Number of registered participants in the 2013 climb and run, the event’s all-time record.

20

Percentage of Alberta Wilderness Association’s yearly revenues derived from the Climb and Run.
