Whether you’re new to Nordic skiing and want to improve your skills, or a seasoned skier looking for a crew to hit the trails with, joining a ski club is a great way to make the most of your winter. Here are five Calgary-based cross-country clubs to consider.

Bow Waters Jackrabbits

Founded in 1992, this family-focused club meets weekly during the winter for a morning lesson followed by an afternoon of touring.

Calgary Nordic Training Group

A recent addition to the X-C scene, this club is focused on family participation in organized ski events and loppets (races), with an emphasis on training.

Calgary Ski Club

Officially formed in 1935, this volunteer-run, recreational club has a training-and-development program for kids and adults and organizes day and overnight trips for members.

Foothills Nordic Ski Club

First incorporated in 1964, this volunteer-run club offers training in cross-country skiing and biathlon and has a staff of three full-time professional coaches.

Norseman Ski Club

Started in 1972 by a group of friends that included the original owners of the Norseman Ski Shop, this club organizes day and overnight trips for a membership that’s mostly over 50 years old.
