Stampede Prep: There Are at Least 4 Country Dancing Classes Starting Soon

It’s time to get serious about fine-tuning your heel dig, your grapevine and your jazz box at one of these classes offered by the City.

Stampede is coming. That means line dancing and two-stepping. If you think your steps are a little rusty, or if you just can’t wait for the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, fine tune your steps by taking one of these courses offered by the City. It’s possible to register for all the courses online.

Country Night Club

Every Friday, head to the Killarney Aquatic and Recreation Centre to learn the basic steps, the must-know patterns and the essentials in country dance timing. You’ll learn some of the most popular dances there are and you’ll be dancing to a range of different music. Yes, you’ll dance to country music, but you’ll also be dancing to funky remixes like you’d hear in the club. The course costs $78.75.

April 10 to May 8 at Killarney Aquatic and Recreation Centre, 1919 29 St. S.W., 403-268-2489, calgary.ca

Line Dance: Basics

This course is for every level of dancer and no partners are necessary. Even if you’ve never line danced before, you’ll feel comfortable enough to join in an impromptu Stampede dance party come July. The course costs $81.90.

April 14 to June 2 at Bob Bahan Aquatic and Fitness Centre, 4812 14 Ave. S.E.; Renfrew Aquatic and Recreation Centre, 810 13 Ave. N.E., 403-268-2489, calgary.ca

Line Dance: Beyond Basics

If you already know the basics when it comes to line dancing, try a class that’s a little more challenging. Add to your repertoire by learning new steps every Tuesday from April 14 to June 2. Expect the instructor to throw in some rock ‘n’ roll along with the country music in this class. This course costs $81.90.

Two Step

Learn the two step basics in this class while dancing to country music. The courses begin on May 20 and run into June, meaning you’ll be ready just in time for Stampede. The Tuesday classes run at the Killarney location while the Wednesday classes take place at the Southland Leisure Centre. Prices for this course range from $48.30 to $89.90.

Starting May 20 at various recreation centres, 403-268-2489, calgary.ca
