Calgary's Best Neighbourhoods 2011: Best Access to Parks and Pathways

Calgary's parks and pathways are an important part of life in our city. Here are the Top 5 Calgary communities with access to them.

In a city with two of the largest urban parks in Canada (Nose Hill and Fish Creek Provincial Park), as well as the most-extensive urban pathway system in North America, it’s no wonder Calgarians reported access to parks and pathways as an important factor in what makes a great community.

In fact, respondents in this year’s survey ranked parks and pathways as the second most-important factor in making a community appealing.

To rank neighbourhoods based on access to parks and pathways, we combed the city and marked each public park and pathway. Neighbourhoods received two points for each park or path in their own community, and one point for each park or different pathway system in an adjoining neighbourhood.

We also factored in residents’ rankings of their community’s access to parks and pathways in our scoring.

These five neighbourhoods received the highest scores for access to parks and pathways in the city:

1. Bowness
2. Varsity
3. Silver Springs
4. Signal Hill
5. Hidden Valley
