How to Eat Gluten-Free in Calgary
Where to purchase gluten-free baking and gluten-free food products, plus how to preserve flavour and nutrients when eating gluten-free.

Haysboro is a community where no one leaves. That — no doubt — must be a sign that the neighbourhood has got it going on.
According to Haysboro Community Association’s former longtime president Sid Wealleans, 65 per cent of residents are retired and have lived in the community for most of their lives. Now, add in the 1950s-style bungalows and mature trees lining the neighbourhood’s streets and its small town-like feel, and it’s easy to see why so many people remain rooted in Haysboro.
“In some of the larger communities everyone just goes to work, shuts their door and never meets anyone,” says Wealleans. “But here, we all know each other. We watch out for each other.”
Haysboro is also close to some major commercial nodes. Just outside its western boundary is the Rockyview General Hospital and Glenmore Landing Shopping Centre, which has more than 60 shops. And along its eastern boundary is Macleod Trail with its almost-endless array of stores to sooth any shopping need.
But it’s the easy access to buses and the LRT that has Haysboro residents raving about how they never get tied up in traffic. There are two LRT stations on the northern and southern tips of the neighbourhood, which makes it easy to avoid gridlock.
“We don’t get tied up in traffic jams,” says Wealleans.
