Matador Pizza and Steakhouse is No Bull

After 36 years, the Matador Pizza and Steakhouse is still ready for the bullring. While the decor is dated, the aromas make you quickly forget about that.

After 36 years, the Matador Pizza and Steakhouse is still ready for the bullring. While the decor is dated, the aromas make you quickly forget about that. Diners have the option of eating in the restaurant or lounge (which has more of a bar feel with VLTs) but, either way, you’ll likely find you’re in the company of Matador regulars. You must start with the Caesar salad, which is possibly the best traditional Caesar in the city. Then go for a classic Matador recipe of baked lasagna with meat sauce. Although very cheesy, the meat sauce tastes just the way an Italian grandmother would make it. A stop at the Varsity restaurant is not complete without a pizza so, if you like heat, try out the Italian sausage and jalapeno pizza. A doughy crust and tons of cheese help to tone down the spicy peppers, but, as it’s made with hardly any tomato sauce, make sure you have water on hand.
