Avenue's 'Design Inside the Box' Competition Winners

A look at the winners of Avenue’s first-ever design competition.

The rules were simple: design any piece of home furnishing or accessory, such as a lamp, stool, chair or vase — the only restriction being the dimensions must not exceed four feet by four feet by four feet. As the entries came in, it became apparent we had more than our esteemed panel of judges could wade through, so we created a short list with a single criteria: one of Avenue’s editors had to want each piece in their own home. From there, our judges pored over the 30 shortlisted entries, examining, dissecting and arguing over the merits of each piece. Finally, they chose five winners.

You can see the winning pieces featured in the following pages on display at the Design Showcase at Domicile Interiors (715 11 Ave. S.W.) this month. And you can bid in a silent auction at Domicile for each of the pieces. A portion of the proceeds will go to Inn From the Cold, which provides assistance to homeless families in Calgary.

Next year’s competition opens soon. If you want to receive more information about how to enter, e-mail us at design@avenuecalgary.com.
