The annual parade always kicks off the Stampede in colourful fashion and the year's edition was no exception.

The Calgary Chinese Community is just one of the many community groups who help to show off Calgary's growing diversity.
The Calgary Chinese Community is just one of the many community groups who help to show off Calgary's growing diversity.

It is a Calgary ritual, every first Friday of the Calgary Stampede roughly 350,000 people line, no, fill every sidewalk and nook and cranny along the route in Calgary's core to take in the Calgary Stampede Parade.

I haven't taken in the parade live for a number of years and it is easy forget just how popular the parade is and fun the parade is.

Even detractors of The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, who often cite the cost and a unrealistic depiction of Calgary's cultural diversity as cons of the Stampede would have a hard time making those arguments at the Parade. It's free and features pariticipants from a large number of the diverse ethnice groups that make our city such a great place to live.
