Gym for the mind

While many of us spend hours a week hitting the gym in an attempt to gain the ideal physique, a much smaller number stop to think about what they are doing for the mind. In that vein, Rene Messier has opened what he dubs a “gym for the mind and spa for the soul,” called Inergy Mind Spa in the Newport Village shopping centre (9152 Macleod Tr. S.).

The concept for the spa has been in the works since 2001 and has gone through many stages of research and development with hundreds of success stories. The Calgary location, which opened in January of this year, is the first clinic in Alberta.

Inergy provides mind spas and program sessions that are designed to zero in on different aspects of a client’s life, ranging from sleep deprivation to career advancement. Mind spas take the client into a deep level of relaxation while listening to motivational messages, soothing music and rolling waves. The experience only takes about 20 minutes, but Inergy facilitators explain that it is equivalent to three-and-a-half hours of sleep.

Program sessions run every hour and take place in a comfortable theatre room set up with recliners, while mind spas run every half hour and usually take place in a private room. Members are welcome to choose from the different positive messages that are being streamed through headphones or when involved in a program, clients can focus on one main area.

Visit Inergy’s website (myinergy.com) for more information on the centre, including client testimonials and a tour of the facility.
