Habañero Consulting Group

2009 Requalified Company

By Lynda Sea

An IT consulting company that specializes in Microsoft-based software.
Seven full-time employees in the Calgary office.

Habeñero has a reputation for doing things differently. A non-hierarchical corporate structure means that, rather than reporting to a manager or typical boss, employees have an accountability agreement where they determine the work they want to do and the circumstances of how they’ll do it. Employees can choose to work part-time hours, reduced work weeks or work from home.

Staff meetings are open to all employees, and, every month,
everyone is encouraged to attend an open-book financial review of the company. This employee-driven model fosters a shared sense of accountability and ownership and is further enhanced by profit sharing and a matching RRSP contribution program.

In addition to a fully stocked kitchen and office lunch every
Friday, staffers also have gym subsidies and a technology allowance that covers the cost of new gadgets used outside of work.
