Calgary played host to the stars of Canadian television for the 24th annual Gemini Awards last fall. The city was abuzz with parties and festivities leading up to the big gala broadcast on November 14. Alberta native and Being Erica star Erin Karpluk and Corner Gas cast members Gabrielle Miller and Tara Spencer-Nairn mingled with guests and added a touch of glamour to the kickoff event at the Glenbow Musuem, which was followed by a swank VIP reception at Teatro. On broadcast day, the red carpet swept somewhat ironically out the doors of the Stampede Corral for a pre-show cocktail party before the awards themselves. The Trailer Park Boys perched near the bar, news anchor nominees mingled with comedians, and talk show host George Stroumboulopoulos greeted female admirers lined up six deep. The Toronto-filmed police drama Flashpoint was the big winner of the evening, garnering three trophies.
