New Releases for March 2, 2010

Posted by Tyler C. Hellard in Amusing Myself To Death on Mar 3 2010 12:34

There's not much to talk about this week. That's probably good since you're all headed to see Alice In Wonderland this weekend anyway.

THIS WEEK'S PICK

Where the Wild Things Are
This movie got a very mixed reaction. It was so polarizing that I may use it as a way to judge a person's worth as a potential friend.
Me: What did you think of Where the Wild Things Are?
Potential Friend: I hated it.
Me: This relationship is over.

My apologies for not getting this in for about a month. Let's just assume nothing good came out at all. Except BioShock 2. You should totally buy that.

THIS WEEK'S PICK

FlashForward: Season One, Part One
Another show I love that's pretty much doomed. That happens with depressing regularity and I still hold all of you personally responsible.

THIS WEEK’S PICK

Catherine MacLellan – Water in the Ground
Right now you’re probably thinking “Hey! You’re only including this album because you went to high school with Catherine MacLellan and may have had a mild crush on her for a good portion of grade eleven. And this album isn’t even new. It’s been out for a year, but only got added to iTunes this week.” To this I can only respond by saying, 1) I deny nothing! 2) Bite me and go get your own blog.

THIS WEEK’S PICK

Moon
If I was the sort of person who made year-end lists, Moon would have finished fourth for best movies of 2009.

New Releases for December 15, 2009

Posted by Tyler C. Hellard in Amusing Myself To Death on Dec 15 2009 14:05

This blog is once again going weekly, though it’s a rough time of year for it since nothing good ever comes out in December. Except, of course, the following.

THIS WEEK'S PICK

September Amusement

Posted by Tyler C. Hellard in Amusing Myself To Death on Sep 10 2009 14:46

Apples In Stereo – #1 Hits Explosion
If you aren't familiar with Apples In Stereo, this "Best Of" compilation is a great way to start. If you are familiar with Apples In Stereo, you know that this is probably the best "Best Of" album coming out this month.
Release date: September 1

Fringe – The Complete First Season
I almost gave up on Fringe about half way through the first season, but then it somehow turned into the show I'm most anticipating coming back for season two.
Release date: September 8

July Amusement

Posted by Tyler C. Hellard in Amusing Myself To Death on Jul 8 2009 12:25

Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson by Ian Halperin
Wow. That was fast. Because he's… you know… dead.
Release date: July 7

The Big Rewind: A Memoir Brought to You by Pop Culture by Nathan Rabin
Nathan Rabin just wrote a book I wish I'd written. Except it's a memoir, and I kind of only wish I lived about half of his actual life.
Release date: July 7

Against Me! – Original Cowboy

June Amusement

Posted by Tyler C. Hellard in Amusing Myself To Death on Jun 1 2009 16:40

Elvis Costello – Secret Profane and Sugarcane
Elvis is back and once again he's doing that thing where he's much cooler than you by being a bigger dork that you. It's one of life's great mysteries how he continues to pull this act off.
Release Date: June 2

Eels – Hombre Lobo: 12 Songs of Desire
The best album inspired by a singer's beard since [insert ZZ Top reference here].
Release Date: June 2

Prison Break: Season 4

May Amusement

Posted by Tyler C. Hellard in Amusing Myself To Death on May 4 2009 11:58

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
If you've got three hours to kill that you want to feel like nine hours, this is the movie for you.
Release date: May 5

Paul Newman: A Life by Shawn Levy
I am immediately suspect of any biography written without the support of its subject, or in the case of a posthumous biography, their family. Even so, Paul Newman lands in the top five all-time list of really cool people, so it may be worth a scan.
Release date: May 5

Pygmy by Chuck Palahniuk

I am a big Trekkie nerd. There, I said it. But when they announced this reboot, I wasn't excited. Now I'm convinced that Star Trek is going to be the greatest movie ever, and here's ten reasons why.
