Portobello West Calgary

Take a weekend mini-break to Notting Hill for $5 round trip.

Okay, so maybe Calgary's Big Four Building isn't quite as cockney-chic as the famous London borough where Hugh Grant wooed Julia Roberts in the 1999 film Notting Hill. But, Stampede Park has it's own unique brand of western, if not West End, charm.

Modeled in the spirit of the historic Portobello Road Market in the heart of London, Portobello West Calgary aims to entice shoppers with jewellery, clothes, art, accessories, makeup and bags designed by indie artists from Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto.

The shopping extraveganzia takes place at the Big Four Building from April 9 to 11.

Bags you say? A girl can't have too many purses, it's purely impossible. I'll be clutching one of Natalie Gerber's eco-chic accessories, which are made of salvaged fabrics and nostalgic treasures of the past. Designers such as Broken Ghost Couture, Dear Pony, Elroy and Amber Leigh will be on hand with their many wears.

Portobello West Calgary is at the Big Four Building. $5 admission for adults (children 12 and under get in free), on April 9th - 11th, 2010 from 4pm-9pm Friday, 11am to 6pm Saturday & 11am to 5pm Sunday.
