Patisserie du Soleil
It’s a bakery, a coffee shop, a fine breakfast-lunch-and-early dinner cafe and a great community meeting spot.
From the time Vicki Adams Willis and her co-founders created Decidedly Jazz Danceworks in 1984, the company's artistic directors and dancers have sashayed around Cuba, shimmied through New York City and twirled through Europe honing their craft.
The Calgary-based dance school and performance group are known for their globe-trotting tendency to seek out and bring home new forms of movement. But, while the company is versed in everything from the samba to hip-hop, DJD's core values remain tightly woven around creating pieces which celebrate and showcase core values of traditional jazz dance and music.
From March 19 to 28, the troupe will tap into a whole new universe when they perform Joshua Hilberman's 2010: A Tap Oddity, at Theatre Junction GRAND.
Hilberman, a Massachusetts-based choreographer, performer and teacher comes to Calgary to work with DJD for a second time. His first time choreographing for the company was when he brought A Tap Oddity's prequel, A Tape Odyssey, to the stage in 2001.
The production could be described as a casual, light-hearted evening of tap and jazz. It features Hilberman, the DJD Company, and a live jazz trio. To purchase tickets go to DJD's website, phone DJD (403-245-3533) or go to the GRAND Box Office 1 hour before show time.
