Back with better Blackberry perspective

Today is my second day back from a three-week holiday I spent with my family at our place in Osoyoos, B.C. I enjoyed a lot of warm and sunny weather, a lot of golf, and a lot of great B.C. wine.

My own personal victory during my time away was that I left both my Blackberry and my laptop at home. And not once did I check my voice mail from afar.

This was the first time since we started the company nearly 15 years ago, that I'd been that disconnected from the office. And it felt good.

It felt good to be away from the office in both body, and mind. And it felt good to know that the company was left in very capable hands while I was away.

Nothing burned down, nothing blew up, no great disasters took place in my absence. Some of the staff here even jokingly said that things probably ran a little smoother while I was gone. (At least I think they were joking...)

I'm trying to make this new found freedom from my Blackberry part of my everyday life. I no longer check it while driving (more for my own survival) and I've been shutting it off each day once I get home from work around 6 p.m. It doesn't go back on again until I leave the house at 7:30 a.m.

How long this new found freedom will last, I don't know, but I'm going to give it my best shot. I think I have a pretty good chance of making it. Here's hoping.

Gary, curious to know how your new blackberry balancing act has gone over the last year? You've had a year now, it's probably due time to let us know if you stuck to it or got back into bad habits?
