Behind the Scenes Doesn't Make the Most Exciting Work

I know, I know. It's been a while. Only two blog posts in the entire month of June. Not very impressive indeed.

But the reason for this has nothing to do with laziness on my part. It's just that life hasn't been all that exciting for the last little while. Much of my time has been spent dealing with the day-to-day drudgery that sometimes goes with runing a magazine publishing company.

That said, there has been some exciting news of late. Our company, RedPoint, was recently selected to be the contract publisher of a new province-wide health and wellness magazine, that will launch in early October. This yet-to-be named magazine, produced in concert with Alberta Health Services, will be published bi-monthly and it wil be distributed throughout Alberta. We'll also be producing and updating a complementary web site.

As well, we received news that we will also be producing a new corporate employee magazine for Suncor starting in January. This 32-page publication will be produced 11 times a year.

In the midst of all of this good news, there's been some unfortunate news as well. Our Avenue Edmonton editor, Colin McGarrigle, announced last week that he's leaving us to become the station manager with CITY-TV in Edmonton. This is obviously a great opportunity for him and we wish him the best of luck.

That said, with Colin leaving on Friday of this week, we find ourself short one city magazine editor. Our endlessly hard-working Avenue Calgary editor Kathe Lemon and equally hard-working executive editor Jennifer Hamilton have agreed in the interim to serve as acting editors for our Edmonton product and they now find themselves travelling three hours north and back again two days of every work week.

We are actively searching for a new editor in Edmonton and we hope to find one soon, but in the interim Kathe's and Jen's hectic schedules are likely to continue into August.

We'll have more exciting news coming out of the Avenue Calgary office in the next couple of days and I look forward to updating you on that in due time.
