Patisserie du Soleil
It’s a bakery, a coffee shop, a fine breakfast-lunch-and-early dinner cafe and a great community meeting spot.
The recipients of the 13th Annual Betty Mitchell Awards were announced on August 30, 2010 at the Max Bell Theatre. Hosted by AJ Demers and double-award nominee Julie Orton, the gala honoured excellence in Calgary theater performances for the 2009/2010 season. This year's Bettys featured 86 nominations in 16 award categories from 59 productions.
Alberta Theatre Project's Shakespeare's Dog took home four awards, more than any other production this year, including Outstanding Costume Design and Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role. Coming in on ATP's heels with three Betty Mitchell awards was Theatre Calgary for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
The award for Outstanding Production of a Play was shared between Vertigo Theatre, for Evelyn Strange, and Alberta Theatre Projects and Ghost River Theatre for their co-production of The Highest Step in the World.
One of Calgary's newer theatre companies on the scene, The Downstage Creation Ensemble, snagged an award for Outstanding New Play for their work In the Wake. Four juried awards were also announced in addition to the 16 categories - the Duval Lang Theatre for Young Audiences, the Greg Bond Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theatre, the Dean Ott/Debbie Boult Award for Outstanding Achievement in Technical Production and the Outstanding Achievement Award which went to Vicki Stroich of Alberta Theatre Projects.
