Patisserie du Soleil
It’s a bakery, a coffee shop, a fine breakfast-lunch-and-early dinner cafe and a great community meeting spot.
It goes with out saying that if you plan a party outside in Calgary it will rain. It doesn't matter which month, the weather will try it's best to work against you. Consider it a fluke if you have gorgeous weather. And count your blessings.
Unfortunately for the Earl's Restaurants around the city, pouring rain and gusting winds canceled all of the patio parties except Earl's Tin Palace and Bankers' Hall. However, as Calgarians are quite used to the volatile weather the party continued on inside complete with the sounds of a warmer continent coming from the nimble fingers of Los Morenos.
With margaritas on hand to greet the guests, Earl's introduced their new summer cocktails: Passion Fruit Caipirinha, Rah Rah Caipiroska and Pom Bomb Gin Caipirinha.
Caipiranha is Brazil's national drink, a refreshing glass made of Cachaça, muddled lime and sugar over ice. And since Cachaça has not always been available, there are many variations that have spun from the original each with a different spirit and it's own name.
Earl's Passion Fruit Caipirinha can also be called caipifruta as it's made with Cachaça and passion fruit. The lime is still strong enough that the passion flavor is a little lost, but that's okay as caipirinhas are supposed to be sour.
The Rah Rah Caipiroska, made with vodka instead of Cachaça works as the raspberry is sour on it's own and great with lime and vodka, while the Pom Bomb Gin Caipirinha is technically not a caipirinha just muddled limes and pomegrant with sugar and gin over ice. Still tasty, as gin is always good and once this weather warms up it will be much appreciated on a warm patio.
Axe Capoeira Calgary was also on hand to keep the Brazilian vibes going and demonstrate the dance/martial arts style popular in the Brazil and around the world. Now if only summer would join the party we could really get Brazilian and party with our shirts off.
