Patisserie du Soleil
It’s a bakery, a coffee shop, a fine breakfast-lunch-and-early dinner cafe and a great community meeting spot.
Yellow Team Living Room

This week our two teams again had a big job to tackle. They needed to finish the living room, front foyer and the stairwells. Basically they had to complete all the remaining space of the interior of their homes.
The Blue Team faced a similar challenge at the front of the home that they had at the back - the entrance opened immediately on to the living space making it difficult to create a sense of privacy or a feeling of a grand entrance. On the flip side, the Yellow Team had a nice small foyer space that provided some privacy, but they lacked much in the way of storage space.
Because this was the last challenge for the interior, this also meant this was the teams' last chance to pull together the finished look including the stairwells leading to both upstairs and the basement.
Both teams continued the established colour palettes used throughout their main-floor areas. For the Blue Team this meant neutrals with darks and lights playing off against each other nicely. Like the rest of the look of the home it was a subtle and classy look.
Also as we've seen before, the Yellow Team space had much more drama using accents of the wallpaper used in the powder room as well as touches of the green paint used elsewhere. They also chose some bold artwork and crafted some useful builtins and custom furnishings that will be very versatile.
Many families shy away from a formal sitting area like the one the Yellow Team has created, but because it is next to the front entrance and is open to the kitchen, separated only by a couple of steps up, this will likely be a well-used space, especially when there are guests. It's important to consider the actual use of your space and how you live in it as well as the overall design. Don't feel you have to have a coffee table if side tables or consoles will work better for your life or space.
The Yellow Team space is on the verge of feeling crowded with furniture and they will need to ensure that more elements aren't added to the room as they start to live in the space.
The Blue Team space on the other hand ended up feeling a bit sparse. Because of the orientation of the large front entrance that opens onto a large living room area, this is a difficult space to work with. The small plant placed next to the door did little to create any privacy and really only emphasized the problem unfortunately. Placing the couch so that you sit with your back to the door and the stairwells is also something that was difficult to avoid, but certainly not preferable.
Again, I think I'm wearing my judging heart on my sleeve this week.
