Patisserie du Soleil
It’s a bakery, a coffee shop, a fine breakfast-lunch-and-early dinner cafe and a great community meeting spot.

It is that time of year when winter seems like it will never end, when the excitement of the new year has waned but the nights are still long and the air is still cold (of course, in Calgary that last characteristic can describe any time of the year). And here it is not just the cold, but the dryness that causes beauty catastrophes. Not exactly humid at the best of times, throw in heating systems and this climate provides a recipe for dry and itchy skin that no amount of cream seems to alleviate. That's because you need to remove the parched dead skin first. Fortunately you can do just that with Lush's Sugar Babe sugar scrub.
There are a number of sugar scrubs on the market right now. Most come in a plastic pot with the sugar coated in moisturizing oils. I find these products best for hands rather than full body as the oils can sometimes create dangerous situations in the shower. Sugar Babe on the other hand is a single-use solid product. This eliminates packaging and also makes it less likely to cause you to slip.
While Sugar Babe looks like a big lump of sugar, inside there's a bit of moisturizing coconut oil, so while you don't get that full oily punch, there is a bit here. And, while you scrub your way toward lovely, soft skin you'll be enveloped in the scent of ylang-ylang and honey (another natural moisturizer).
Sugar Babe is $4.95 at Lush in Market Mall.
