New Calgary Restaurants: June 2010

Red’s Diner
Taking over the old Renfrew Furs building, this funky urban diner is complete with exposed brick walls and hardwood. Expect diner classics with a twist and all-day breakfast items such as eggs, buttermilk pancakes, veggie burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches and milkshakes made with MacKay’s ice cream. (1415 4 St. S.W., 403-266-3448)

Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria
This Edmonton-based pizzeria chain recently opened its first Calgary location in Mission. Drop by for authentic wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas as well as salads, gelato, espresso, wine and beer. (105, 2303 4 St. S.W., 403-455-3839, famoso.ca)

Tango Bistro
Serving up “global bistro” cuisine, this new eatery in the Smuggler’s Inn building is the place to go for small plates to share, most under $10. Chef Kenny Kaechele, formerly of Divino and The Ranche fame, cooks up savoury dishes like lime-cured scallops and Korean-style short ribs. (6920 Macleod Tr. S., 403-252-4365)
