Patisserie du Soleil
It’s a bakery, a coffee shop, a fine breakfast-lunch-and-early dinner cafe and a great community meeting spot.

With summer finally starting to show its reclusive face, many Calgarians will be indulging in iced coffee, twist cones, and freeze pops anytime the weather heads north of 15 C. And though they are immediately refreshing and satisfying, these delicious treats can be a mixed blessing: especially if you plan on going to the beach after two months of enriched sugar bingeing.
Thankfully, a new healthier, and every-bit-as-refreshing alternative has sprung up in two of Calgary's largest pedestrian communities. Spoon Me offers a modern twist on how to serve frozen yogurt and in naming/branding a store with a thinly veiled sexual entendre. The trendy U.S. based chain has recently opened locations in the Kensington and 17 Avenue S.W. areas (the franchise's only Canadian stores) and offers guilt-free dessert with "no artificial anything-flavors, colors or sweeteners. Plus zero table sugar. Zero fat."
Spoon Me has three different sizes ("baby", "half" and "full") of 4, 8 and 12 oz. Once you decide on a size, you need to choose between natural, green tea or acai as your base flavour and then which toppings you would like to finish your personalized concoction with. The toppings are as classic as diced strawberry and pineapple, and venture into wild territory with Captain Crunch and Fruity Pebbles cereals. Each serving (4 oz.) is "less than 85 calories."
Spoon Me helps alleviate its customers caloric-intake-related-guilt as well as its store's environmental impact by using 100% biodegradable cups, spoons, napkins and even garbage bags. So when the heat starts to rise this summer, remember to check out this new alternative and see if Spoon Me cuddles up to your sweet tooth.
