The conical shape might conjure memories of weaving around pylons to pass your drivers test, but the Rudebaker Vase by Calgary-based Palette Industries is a more grown-up traffic cone. The pylon has been reinterpreted as a vase made from kiln-fired stoneware and coated in a semi-gloss white, black or lavender glaze. Instead of the pylon signalling barriers, warning us of road construction or forcing us into annoying detours, the iconic shape can be propped up on your side table and filled with fresh cut flowers — transforming traffic cones from an unpleasant nuisance into a home accessory worth coveting.

The decor item is part of Palette Industries' Nu(is)ances series, which reinterprets and reclaims public irritants and turns them into design accessories.

$98, available for pre-order at paletteindustries.com
