Starbucks Gives Away Free Coffee to Green Customers Today

If you struggle to be as environmentally conscious as you could be (like me) or if you're just lazy and/or apathetic (again, like me), Starbucks has a great promotion - running today, April 15th, 2010, which they hope will promote green-thinking and sustainable living.

"That's great," you say, but "what's in it for me?" How about free coffee? All you have to do is bring a reusable travel mug to Starbucks and they will fill it up free of charge with "brewed or iced coffee." The promo is entering its fifth year as part of an initiative to bring wider recognition of Earth Month and the environmental impact of consumer waste.

Starbucks also hopes customers will visit their website and see the Impact Calculator, that shows how much waste can be saved by using reusable mugs. Starbucks "reported that in fiscal 2009, more than 26 million beverages were served in reusable travel mugs in its company-owned stores in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom." The iconic coffee house has offered 10 cents off a cup of coffee to customers who bring reusable mugs since 1985 and hopes to completely rid its stores of disposable cups by 2015.

And with a bazillion Starbucks laced throughout the city; genuine caffeine junkies can visit multiple locations to keep their buzz going all day.
