The neighbourhood we choose to live in says a lot about us as individuals. Our neighbourhoods and their features reflect our priorities be it groomed outdoor spaces for sports, kid-friendly activities, a happening nightlife or a large backyard for entertaining. It’s not to say that any choice is wrong — just individual.

But because of some karmic debt you’ve held onto from your past, chances are, you will forget something and only realize it at the last minute. Here’s a list of grocery store hours around the city so you don’t have to set off on a 10-store trek in search of the Holy Grail (otherwise known as cranberry sauce).

They asked and the city answered. The Calgary Foundation released the results of its VitalSigns 2011 opinion poll that had 1,059 Calgarians sharing what they want from the city in areas including  environmental, social and economic issues.

This year's top concerns include limiting urban sprawl, reducing reliance on cars and reducing isolation for seniors — all problems stemming from poor urban planning.

Mayor Nenshi Weighs in on City Budget Deliberations

With city budget deliberations beginning this week, Mayor Naheed Nenshi did a little over time, with a weekend blog post  offering his take on Calgary's spending plan.

Congratulating the city's administration on “finding $100 million in efficiencies with minimal impact to front line services,” he states that a five percent budget increase is reasonable and should be maintained.

Calgary Stampede Centennial Celebration Announcement

Stampede Centennial Celebrations

Early this afternoon, Calgary Stampede president and CEO Mike Casey revealed the early plans for this summer's Stampede Centennial celebrations to a small group of local media.

Casey emphasized that this was just a“sneak a peek” and that more announcements would be coming in the months ahead. Perhaps most notably, the parade marshal has not yet been named.
