NHL'ers Narrowly Top Rockers in Annual Charity Game
Body:

It was a close game. Well at least the former NHL players kept it close, allowing the final score to finish at 16 to 15 in their favour. But the real winners were the fans and Musican, the charitable division of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Science.

Fans not only got to see legendary players like Lanny McDonald and Paul Coffey on the ice again, but also got to see first hand why most of the rockers are musicians and not athletes.

Musican not only recieved proceeds from the game, but also a big cheque ($100,000 big) from The Keg Spirit Foundation before the puck drop.

In fact the only real loser was Rocker Michael Hollet, founder of NOW magazine and the North by Northwest Music Festival, who broke his leg in an accidental on-ice collision.

(Left to right) Paul Coffey, Bob Probert and Doug Gilmour. This is the photograph the humble photographer took while the "official" puck drop was happening. Oops.

The aforementioned "big cheque" — literally and figuratively — is presented to team captains Jim Cuddy (far left) and Mark Napier (far right).

Chris Murphy of Sloan chats with game announcer Michael Landsberg of TSN, during a break in the action. Clearly a fan of Wayne Gretzky, Murphy not only sported number 99 on his jersey, but also the old school Jofa beanie-style helmet.

The Wilma Hansen Junior High School band performs the national anthem with 2008 Juno nominee Richard Underhill.

Juno Cup

Hockey legends and music stars will once again lace'em up for the 5th Annual 2008 Juno Cup. The fan favourite event, presented by The Keg Steakhouse & Bar, will take place at the Stampede Corral, where The Greats faceoff against The Rockers. Watch as hockey legends Doug Gilmour, Colin Patterson, Bob Probert, Paul Coffey and hometown hero Lanny McDonald, defend their title. The Rockers clearly believe there is power in numbers as they boast twice the line-up, including idols Tom Cochrane, John Doherty and Brent Fitz. To safeguard their net, they've recruited two-time Olympic Gold Medallist goalie Sami Jo Small. Proceeds are in benefit of MusiCan, the charitable division of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The puck drops April 4 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at ticketmaster.ca or by calling 777-0000. There will also be a silent auction during the game, with more than 50 sport and rock collectable items. For a complete list of memorabilia, check out junocup.ca. [1]
