Not My First Rodeo: Ingrid Mosker

Tips from longtime Calgarians who have been going to the Stampede since they were kids.

Name: Ingrid Mosker

Occupation: Piano teacher and stay-at-home mom.

I’ve lived in Calgary since: 1979 ( I was 3-and-a-half-years old when we moved here from Ottawa).

I’ve been going to the Stampede since: 1980

My favourite Stampede memory is: Getting up super early to find a spot on 9th Avenue for the parade with my sister Deirdre, dressed in our homemade matching denim outfits.

These days, my typical Stampede includes: Attending National Music Centre-hosted events with my husband Andrew.

My favourite Stampede attraction is: Live music at Nashville North, the Cowboys tent and the Coca Cola stage.

My favourite Stampede food is: Caramel peanut apples.

My favourite Stampede outfit is: Jeans and a tee.

Three things I recommend doing at the Stampede are: Dancing it out wherever you can. Seeing the art at the Western Showcase. Taking kids to the show dogs and sheep shearing.

One thing you should avoid is: Being in a hurry to get anywhere. Because you won’t get anywhere in a hurry at Stampede.

Last words of advice: Hydrate. Often.

The Calgary Stampede runs July 3 to 12, 2015. For information visit calgarystampede.com; follow on Twitter @calgarystampede
