Bocce brings a bright, green freshness and casual approach to Italian dining in Mission. Its take on classic Italian dishes is also fresh with inventive, meal-worthy salads and starters. But it is the wood-fired pizzas that are the stars of the show, offering creations that are unique and occasionally unexpected. The finishing touches, like the drizzle of rosemary honey over the Quattro Formaggi, take the pizzas to new places.

Bonterra Trattoria

The Tuscan-inspired atmosphere of Bonterra is just the beginning of why this restaurant remains so well-loved and admired by regulars and newcomers alike. Authentic Italian dishes feature olive oil-poached tuna, cioppino of mussels and gnocchi with braised lamb, and the wine list is perfectly curated to complement the cuisine. Each dish is simple but expertly prepared, making this rustic restaurant a prime example of authentic Italian dining in Calgary.

Mercato’s iconic dish, the grilled Bistecca alla Fiorentina topped with arugula and lemons, is one of the tastiest steaks in town, and its house-made pastas are second to none. Couple that with a lively atmosphere, friendly, knowledgeable staff, and simple, but delicious mains and sides, and you have one — actually two — of the most fun and flavour-forward restaurants in the city.

It’s impossible to order the wrong thing off this contemporary Italian menu, although, if we’re being honest, you might be wrong if you don’t order the spaghetti carbonara if it’s your first visit. From the wood-fired pizzas to the panna cotta, with a hand-selected wine-list and a price that’s always right, Scopa never disappoints.

Sugo serves classic, authentic Italian cuisine in a quiet, elegant and unassuming atmosphere in Inglewood. The Caesar salad is one of the best in the city, and the hearty ragu is as authentic a Tuscan dish as you’ll find in Calgary. Chef Angelo Contrada not only imports his ingredients from Italy, but even uses the seasonal produce grown by his parents, Michelangelo and Antoinetta, during the summer.
