Bar Bincho opens in Mission
Ikemen Ramen Bar‘s new sister restaurant recently opened in Mission. Bar Bincho, which is decked out with splashes of pink and yellow and a neon sign that says “Live long & sake,” specializes in yakitori skewers like beef short ribs, mochi bacon, pork belly and scallops for $2.50 to $4.50 each. Round out your meal with a few of the shareable snacks, such as chicken chips, tuna tataki honey butter wings, gyoza, Wagyu oil popcorn and more.

Deerfoot City opens its new dining space called The Food Lodge
The next time you’re shopping at Deerfoot City, you’ll have a few more dining options to check out when you get hungry. The mall recently opened its new Food Lodge, which features an indoor playground for children, the mall’s guest services and a 554-seat food court that will eventually house several quick service eateries. So far, you’ll find Chachi’s, Mia Pasta and Opa! in there, but eateries like Chronic Tacos, Ono Poke and Regrub will be joining them soon. This is definitely not your average food court, so be sure to check out the new standalone building the next time you’re in the area.

Peppino opens in the Beltline
With four locations around the city, Calgarians already know and love the sandwiches at Peppino. And now, those who find themselves in the Beltline can also grab a bite at its newly opened fifth location. Like the others, this new location serves up nearly 40 sandwiches options that range from classics like BLTs with cheese to ones like Joe’s Special with mortadella, calabrese salami, capicollo, cheese and lettuce. But what’s special to this location is that there will be beer and wine on tap. While you’re there, pick up some grocery items like pasta noodles, sauce, deli meat and more.

Restaurants for Change returns for one night this month
Restaurants for Change is a national event where more than 75 restaurants in 19 cities donate to local food programs using a portion of their dinner service sales from a set night. This year in Calgary, that night is October 17, which basically makes it the best night to eat out this whole month. So far, there are 13 participating Calgary restaurants including Teatro, Cluck N’ Cleaver, Cibo, Deane House and more.
Shoe & Canoe Public House opens downtown
One of Calgary’s newest restaurants can be found inside the newly renovated Delta Hotels by Marriott Calgary Downtown. The hotel’s new 160-seat restaurant and bar, Shoe & Canoe Public House, opened on the main level last month. The restaurant is inspired by land geographer David Thompson, who explored North America in the late 1700s and early 1800s. You’ll find references to Thompson throughout the restaurant, from its name (it refers to how Thompson travelled) to the decor, which features globes and a canoe-inspired light fixture. The kitchen, led by executive chef Phil Andrews and executive sous chef Paul Audet, offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Stop by to try the Alberta grain bowl, smoked brisket pappardelle, Fogo Island cod, Alberta braised lamb shank, flatbreads and more. Be sure to check out Shoe & Canoe’s selection of beer and cocktails as well, which feature drinks inspired by Thompson’s travels and nicknames.
