New restaurants, menus and pop-ups are keeping Calgary’s food scene busy. Here’s what you need to know about the latest food-related openings, news and events in Calgary.

Elbow Room and ZCrew Cafe introduce new fall menus

More and more Calgary restaurants have been introducing new dishes and flavours to their menu for the fall season. In Britannia, there are nearly two dozen new dishes to try at Elbow Room, not to mention a new “Experience” menu. Offered at lunch and dinner, the “Experience” menu gets you three dishes for $22 at lunch or one of two combination dinner options for less than $50. Alternatively, if you’re in the Victoria Park area, swing by ZCrew Cafe to try new dishes like the new coconut chicken curry rice bowl or the Monster bao-ger.

Namo Cafe & Bistro opens in Renfrew

OEB may have moved out of its original Renfrew location, but local foodies can still satisfy their breakfast and lunch cravings at the new eatery that has moved into the space. Namo Cafe & Bistro opened there earlier this month with a menu that features creative breakfast dishes like pumpkin spice pancakes, matcha mille crepes, Greek or Spanish omelettes and eggs Kejriwal. If you’re more in the mood for lunch fare, there’s also an Indian spiced lentil bowl, perogies, a huevos burrito, falafel sandwiches, laksa and more.

Otto Gelato opens downtown

Need a break while working downtown? Head to Otto Gelato for some ice cream and a coffee. Order a scoop of gelato — recent flavours have included dark chocolate, coffee, pumpkin spice and strawberry — or try a gelato creation like the Supreme Cup, which features three gelato scoops topped with caramel sauce, pecans and whipped cream. There’s also hot chocolate, tea and coffee options to keep you warm.

Société Coffee Lounge launches a new matcha pop-up called SháKài Matcha

Can’t get enough of matcha? The popular green tea is the focus of a new pop-up called SháKài Matcha. Available at Société Coffee Lounge on Thursday and Friday evenings and throughout the day on Saturday and Sundays, SháKài Matcha’s menu specifically features matcha drinks and gluten-free baked goods. The food menu features a mix of baked goods by Nourish Kitchen (think matcha cookie sandwiches, cream puffs and roll cakes) and matcha doughnuts by Mountain Rhino Donuts. The drink options, which feature matcha from Shisso Tea, include matcha pina smoothies, matcha milkshakes, passion fruit matcha lattes, rose matcha lattes and matcha tea. Swing by on a weekend to get your matcha fix.
