Wild Rose Brewery: Cold Local Beer and a Patio Built for Albertans
This popular taproom has a fresh summer menu, weekly events and award-winning brewery tours.
Nestled in the Currie Barracks, the Wild Rose Brewery Taproom is a destination — and with 16 diverse beer taps, it’s a beer-lover’s oasis. You can purchase beer and merchandise, sit down for a fresh meal, tour the historic brewery or book a party in the Barracks Room.
Wild Rose Brewery’s beer is made from all natural, premium ingredients. The styles vary from an entry level craft Alberta Blonde Ale called Electric Avenue to a beer-forward fruit beer called Wraspberry Ale, not to mention the brewery’s latest: a strong, juicy, hemp pale ale called Hight Harvest. There is a beer for everyone at the taproom as well as some extraordinary cask ales that are tapped every Friday at 4 p.m.
Wild Rose is proud of one of its more uncommon practices: mixing beers to create new flavours called “Beerations.” The most popular Beeration is a Pink Velvet composed of half Wraspberry Ale and half Wild Rose flagship wheat ale Velvet Fog. The result is a light wheat beer with a subtle fruit finish. This summer, try the Ponderosa Gose, an unfiltered wheat ale that’s a touch sour and very refreshing. With just the right amount of passion fruit added, this one is sure to go down easy on the sunny patio.
The heritage-status quonset hut that houses the brewery and kitchen has many stories to tell. When you book your brewery tour, not only do you get to know every facet of the beer making process, you also learn about the Canadian Air Force building (AF23) itself. Wild Rose’s tour guides are very thorough and knowledgeable. In fact, Jason Parno was just awarded a White Hat Award for his excellent tours. Book one today for only $25 at wildrosetaproom.com.
The menu at the Wild Rose Brewery Taproom is just as diverse as the beer menu. Most of the food is made from locally sourced ingredients and everything is made fresh daily. Whether you’re in the mood for a large, fresh salad or an extremely satisfying brisket sandwich, Wild Rose has it — as well as the beers to pair it with. There are several kid-friendly items on the menu as well as vegetarian and gluten-free options.
If you’ve ever dreamed about getting married in a brewery, Wild Rose is the place. At the back of the taproom is a large, versatile event space called the Barracks Room. With audio/visual services, a full bar and menu and a large patio space, any type of event can be held here very affordably. Contact the event team for more info at wildrosetaproom.com/barracksroom.
