With the recent engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it’s no wonder today’s brides are spending hours on Instagram and Pinterest storyboarding their perfect day. With the influx of bridal fashion from all over the world, Alberta brides can’t help but wonder where they should even start.
Many believe it all begins with “the dress,” but for Liane Knox and Brooke Kleiner, owners of Blush & Raven Bridal Boutique, it’s an evolving process involving a few different factors. Some brides have a clear vision, have chosen their venue and know most of the details of their day prior to shopping for a dress. Others look exclusively for the perfect dress before considering anything else. “We always recommend being open to what moves you in the moment,” says Brooke. “If you are rigidly set on specific silhouettes or colours, this can limit your experience and the ability to find the right dress for your day.”
Brides often come into the shop with photos of dresses they love and tell Liane and Brooke about what they like and don’t like. These preferences are taken into careful consideration when Liane and Brooke help clients select gowns to try on. “It’s a process of seeing how styles and colours suit the bride, and also how she will feel in her dress on the day,” Liane says. “We get a lot of, ‘I never thought to choose this style!'”
The concept of Blush & Raven was born when Liane was planning her own wedding and Brooke was designing her wedding jewellery. Brooke offered a personalized experience, customizing each piece of jewellery for each member of the wedding party. Blush & Raven has evolved from a custom jewellery line (originally named after Brooke’s daughters Violet and Scarlett) to a full-service bridal, bridesmaid and event-wear boutique with a unique custom jewellery experience (Perla Mia Jewellery). The boutique allows all of the female guests of honour to shop for the perfect dress and accessories in one beautifully renovated downtown loft.
Featuring fashion houses from all over the world, the collection includes Flora Bride (Israel), Persy Fashion (U.K.) and – new to the shop this winter – Tara Lauren (U.S.), Savin London (U.K.) and Jack Sullivan Bridal (Australia), as well as Vancouver designer Pure Magnolia and local Calgary designer Nicole Rita Tomney of NRT Fashions.
Liane and Brooke travel all over the world to bring international couture to Alberta – styles and looks that women in Calgary and area are seeking but may not know where to find. “We are constantly thinking of the next trends, the classic silhouettes and how we can capture the essence of your personal style,” Brooke says.
On the day that you say “I do” you can choose to embrace something a little bit different, much more exciting and most importantly, a whole lot more you! Book your private appointment online, bring your family and friends, get cozy in the stylish Blush & Raven loft and talk about yourself and your big day.
