Spring Art and Craft Markets In and Around Calgary

These are the various art and craft markets to know about from March through to mid-June.

Markets in March

Calgary Night Market

Calgary Night Market takes place intermittently throughout the year, but this edition will fall just over a week after the official start of spring. Kick-off the market season right by browsing handmade local goods such as jewellery and bath and body products. There will also be food trucks and live DJs to tickle your fancy.

When: March 29, 2019 — with additional dates through the spring to be found here.

Markets in April

Make It Calgary

This is a big craft market. Make It! has a few shows across Western Canada but it stops in Calgary on the first weekend of April. More than 100 vendors will be selling handcrafted items during the weekend.

When: April 5 to 9, 2019
Where: Deerfoot City, 901 64 Ave. N.E.
Cost: $5 at the door or $2.50 in advance


Tibetan Spring Bazaar

The Tibetan Association of Alberta hosts its annual spring market on April 7. Attendees can purchase a range of authentic Tibetan items at the one-day market including jewellery, scarves, singing bowls, carpets, shawls and more. Try some authentic Tibetan food while you’re there.

When: April 6, 2019

Curated Spring Market

If you’re looking for handmade and curated items, you’ll find plenty of options here. This edition of the Curated market will feature 70 vendors offering everything from upcycled clothing to home decor to candles. Live entertainment and food trucks complete the shopping experience.

When: April 12 and 13, 2019
Where: Bowness Community Association, 7904 43 Ave. N.W.
Cost: $4 admission


The Fibre Shindig

The spring 2019 edition of The Fibre Shindig is just around the corner. In addition to supplies for knitting and sewing (fabric, yarn, patterns, kits, spindles and buttons) you’ll find ready-to-enjoy wares like fibre toys, jewellery, bags, yarn bowls and mugs. Admission includes entry into a draw for prizes.

When: April 13, 2019

Little Modern Market (West Edition)

Don’t miss the new “west edition” of this modern market. Vendor categories include children and baby, clothing and accessories, health and beauty, pet and numerous others. All told, there will be at least 70 vendors to browse.

Cost: $5 admission


New Craft Coalition Spring Show + Sale

Members of Calgary’s creative small business community are coming together for the spring edition of New Craft Coalition’s show and sale. You have two days over the Easter long weekend to browse handcrafted goods by 24 different vendors including Jessica Redditt Design (pictured), Heather Buchanan, Lisa Brawn, Janet Stein Jewelry and others. Admission is $5 at the door but you can save $2 by purchasing tickets in advance at Outside the Shape in Inglewood.

When: April 19 and 20, 2019

Ujamaa Grandmas Fabric and Yarn Sale

The Ujamaa Grandmas are back for their seasonal fabric and yarn sale. You’ll find a wide variety of fabrics for sewing and knitting and project at this sale, and you can feel good about shopping know that the Grandmas are raising funds the the Stephen Lewis Foundation. The charity supports sub-Saharan African grandmothers who are caring for their grandchildren who have been orphaned by the AIDS/HIV pandemic.

Beacon Original Art Spring Art Exhibition & Sale

Artwork by more than 25 Alberta artists will be available for purchase at this spring art market. Expect to find everything from painting and photography to ceramics and textiles.

When: April 27, 2019
Where: Bridgeland-Riverside Community Association, 917 Centre Ave. N.E.
Cost: Free admission


Markets in May

State of Art Society Art Show and Sale

Shop directly from both members of State of Art Society and guests at this two-day show and sale. 15 artists will be selling paintings, sculptures, glass, wood, pottery, jewellery and more. A portion of proceeds will go towards the Cerebral Palsy Association of Alberta’s Art FUNdamentals program.

When: May 3 and 4, 2019

Passionate Painters Art Show & Sale

Ten painters will be exhibiting and selling their works at the picturesque Country Hills Golf Club. The first 100 people to enter will receive a free art card and all attendees will be entered for door prizes. As well, a cash bar will be on hand to quench your thirst.

Workshop Studios’ Spring Fling

Head down to Inglewood for a spring fling celebration in support of the Calgary Humane Society. Hosts Workshop Studios are facilities for artists, ceramicists and creative events. Accordingly, you can expect open studios, mini-workshops, an art market, silent auction, plant swap and pop up bar by Sugar Water.

Commonwealth Collectors Club

The Spring edition of this decidedly hip market is held at Calgary’s long-running nightclub, Commonwealth — accordingly, it’s open to attendees 18+ only. Vendors announced so far include Adesso Man and Inner Wolf Jewelry, you can expect more local artisans, vintage clothing and music vendors to be announced by sale day.

Mount Pleasant Potters’ Guild Spring Pottery Market

Over 30 local potters will be selling their wares at this free-admission market. From functional to decorative to whimsical creations, you’ll find something unique to take home here. Funds raised support educational events of the Mount Pleasant Potters’ Guild.

Markets in May

Okotoks Spring Fling

This spring market will have 100 vendors (plus food trucks) selling handmade goods over the course of two days. Jewellery, bath and body products, home decor items and treats are just some of the items you’ll be able to buy this weekend Don’t miss the chance to participate in artisan workshops, and be sure to check out the kooky “jail and bail” event where local celebrities help raise money for the Baby it’s Cold Outside, a charity supporting those dealing with homelessness and other challenges.

Etsy: Made in Canada – Calgary Spring

This is the second time that Etsy: Made in Canada has held a spring market to feature locally made goods in Calgary. Shop from more than 45 vendors including Ambrosia Cheesecake Shop, Stufd Monsters, Pink Couture Ltd., Soul Sister Photo and more.

When: May 11, 2019

Group Art Society Spring Show and Sale

This collective of painters will be showcasing and selling works in a variety of sizes, mediums and prices. Founded in 1968, this long-running society hovers around 30 members, each with great and varied experience. All attendees can enter to win a door prize painting by Suzette Jones.

When: May 11, 2019

Cost: Free admission, but attendees are encouraged to bring a donation for the Calgary Food Bank


Triwood Spring Market

Triwood’s spring market will host an array of vendors of handmade goods like soy candles, doggy beds, jerky and more. There will also be food trucks and a local florist making Mother’s Day bouquets. Pick up a last minute gift and pick out something for yourself while you’re there.

Calgary Spring Fibre Festival

A & B Fibreworks inside Crossroads Market is hosting a two-day festival dedicated to all things fibre. You can shop for yarn and completed works while enjoying a live band, buskers and perhaps a snack from one of Crossroads’ tasty vendors. Classes will be held on both days of the event, with a casual crafting session offered on the 12th.

When: May 11 and 12, 2019

Vintage Redefined Market

This market has tons of antiques and collectibles to browse throughout the 25,000 square feet of the Acadia Recreation Complex. But what lands it on our “art and craft” list is the inclusion of repurposed and reclaimed vintage wares — hand-improved and adjusted relics with a crafty twist. This market has a few different ticket pricing options, including VIP options that permit early entry.

Market Collective

The next three-day Market Collective returns to its new home at the BMO Centre on the last weekend of May. Expect more than 150 vendors selling everything from handmade jewellery to paper goods to puzzles.

Markets in June

Clothesline Festival & Art Sale

The historic Leighton Centre in Alberta’s Foothills is throwing a massive party and art sale on its 80-acre grounds over two days this June. Both parking and admission are free for the event, which includes activities like live music, artist demos, kids’ art activities, face-painting (by donation) and local food vendors. This will coincide with the closing of Leighton’s 17th Annual Juried Members Show, making it a great chance to catch the exhibition while having some family fun.

When: June 1 and 2, 2019

Lilac Fest

This one-day street festival has tons to offer the whole family. In addition to children’s activities several musical performances, you can shop from more than 500 vendors all along 4 St. S.W.

Inglewood Night Market

The first of 2019’s recurring Inglewood Night Market series signals spring is coming to an end and summer is just around the corner. Celebrate that by taking a stroll through its outdoor offerings of over 50 local vendors ranging from vintage sellers to artisans of handmade goods. There will also be a beer garden, food trucks and live entertainment.

Little Modern Market

Don’t miss the spring edition of this modern market. Past vendors have sold everything from jewellery and clothing to home decor and accessories.

Tangled Tree Arts Spring Artisan Market

Fine art and crafts, antiques, vintage and upcycled items, homemade foods and drinks – these are just some of the handmade items you’ll find at this market, which is back for a fourth year. Everything the 35+ vendors sell is handmade, so be sure to swing by and check out their work.
