The original midnight movie comes to Calgary Pride by way of Calgary Underground Film Festival, Calgary Queer Arts Society and Hole in the Wall Studios. Dress as your best Janet, Rocky or Frank-N-Furter and make it down in time for the pre-show with Fake Moustache at 11:30 p.m. The film begins at midnight and prop kits are available for anyone who wants to take audience interaction to the highest level. CIFF Trailer Party

Calgary International Film Festival turns 20 this year. Get excited for this year's crop of films from here at home and around the globe with a free party at the Globe Cinema where trailers for festival selections will be screened. To accommodate the high demand for the annual event, the venue will be screening trailers on its upper level at 6:30 p.m. and its lower level at 7 p.m.

Femme Wave Festival Fundraiser: Alien

This fundraiser for Femme Wave feminist music and arts festival will feature a screening of the classic film Alien and a live set by local band Polly Dactic. Audience members are encouraged to dress to the sci-fi theme of the evening and chime in on quotable lines during the screening. There will also be a silent auction preceding showtime and a cash bar stocked with Village Brewery beer (including a non-alcoholic option) and a "signature slime cocktail." Proceeds raised support…

Japan Film Festival

The touring Japan Film Festival will touch down at Calgary's Globe Cinema on Sunday, September 8. The festival entails two free screenings at noon and 2:30 p.m., respectively. The first screening is Dear Etranger (pictured), which contains mature themes and is not recommended for children. The second is the all-ages-friendly Dad's Lunch Box.
