10 Restaurants with Fireplaces

Dining by the fire is the perfect foil to a cold Calgary day or night.

The fireplace inside River Caf is the perfect juxtaposition to the snowy views outside.

Bear’s Den

Last year, this restaurant underwent a much-needed overhaul of its interior and an updating of the menu, which still leans towards classic steakhouse. After the transformation, the place still remains nice and cozy with the big fireplace in its dining room.

Cilantro

Alright, so it’s not technically a fireplace, but the wood-fired oven used to make the restaurant’s signature pizzas gives off a crackling blaze, and the woodsy interior and dim lighting in the room around the oven make you feel like you’re dining in a fancy little cabin.

Extreme Bean

Just off the river path on Memorial Drive West, you’ll find this cute cafe. It’s always a great spot to grab a hot chocolate to warm up near the fireplace, but Extreme Bean boasts a fairly extensive food menu, too, with sandwiches, pasta, noodle bowls and the like.

Higher Ground Cafe

Stay warm sipping a drink and getting some reading done or having a quick lunch at a table near one of this coffee shop’s not one but two fireplaces.

LeVilla Chophouse West

A large stone-studded fireplace is the focal of the room at this quality steakhouse in Calgary’s southwest. It’s exposed on all four sides, which definitely helps increase your chances of getting a table right beside it.

The Nash

Michael Noble’s brand new restaurant boasts lots of eye-catching design accents like golden metal lighting fixtures and a beautifully tiled entrance way, but the fireplace on the south wall will is the fixture to sit by when it gets snowy outside.

Notable

Much like Cilantro, the rotisserie in the corner of the kitchen is not a fireplace, but since it’s always aflame and there’s a generous amount of seating along the kitchen bar, this fire still fits the bill.

The Rimrock at Fairmont Palliser

If these walls could talk. The iconic and ornate fireplace in the southwest corner of this historic dining room looks like something out of Harry Potter movie. Needless to say, its flame burns big and bright.

River Caf

It’s definitely worth trekking through the wind and snow in Prince’s Island Park to unbundle and enjoy a meal inside this restaurant that will give you some of the best fireside service you’ll find in the city.

Sandstone Lounge

The Hyatt’s hotel lounge is a great spot for an after work drink. Get comfortable in the big leather chairs with a cocktail or two and a friend by Sandstone’s big fireplace while a giant taxidermied buffalo head looks down on you.
