It’s the time of year to shop for all things handmade. The arts and crafts markets in and around Calgary have already started, meaning now’s the time to get a head start on your Christmas shopping. You can find the perfect gift for everyone on your list from now until mid-December.

Beacon Original Art Annual Fall Exhibition and Sale

Beacon Original Art holds its annual sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. over these two days. Up to 25 local artists will be there displaying and selling their paintings, photography, ceramics and more. Each day has different artists. There’s free parking here and a prize draw.

New Craft Coalition

The two artists behind this market — Laura Sharp and Natalie Gerber — bring a curated collection of Canadian work to craft enthusiasts. Artists in the coalition who sell their work at the market include textile artist Irene Rasetti, Stephanie Elderfield from MetalMyth Studios and Dawn Candy from Little Sister Pottery.

Ujamaa Grandmas Bags, Babies and Beyond

Ujamaa Grandmas holds its an annual fall sale to benefit the Stephen Lewis Foundation. The grandmas are selling handmade purses, accessories, decor items and toys. If you go home with nothing else, get a felted bag — it’s what the group is known for. All proceeds support African children who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS and are now being cared for by their grandparents.

35th Annual Bearspaw Fall & Christmas Market

This market has offered fall and Christmas goodies to the community for the last 35 years. This year, there will be more than 85 vendors selling various handmade items. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Vintage & Vines Country Market

Vintage & Vines Country Market is a new market that's being hosted at the Rocking R Guest Ranch in Strathmore. Shop for a range of vintage and handmade items from local vendors such as candles, vintage furniture, home decor and jewellery. You can also try drink tastings from Field Stone Fruit Wines. The market runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on October 20 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 21.

Palette Fine Art Show and Sale

Pick out a new piece of artwork for your home at this show and sale put on by the Calgary Community Painters Society. There will be watercolours, mixed media, acrylic pieces and more, all created by more than 50 local artists. There will also be live art demonstrations at the event. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Fibre Shindig

This craft show is dedicated to all the knitters, crocheters and felters in Calgary. Stop by Calgary’s only fibre show and buy yarn, beads and buttons for all your fibre-focused projects. Vendors include Lily and Pine Fibre Arts, Burnt Glass Studios and Polka Dot Creek.

Calyx Distinctive Arts Semi-Annual Art Exhibition and Sale

This two-day art exhibition and sale showcases work by different artists each day. This is the 34th year that the event has taken place.

When: Oct. 21 and 22, 2017

Make It! Holiday Market

If it's handmade goods you're looking for, the Make It! market is a must-visit. There will be more than 175 vendors at this holiday market, selling everything from handmade treats to baby items to home decor. Shop for artwork from Akamina Studio, fudge from Auntie Jean's Fudge, jewellery from Béton Brut, candles from the Coal and Canary Candle Company and more. There will also be food trucks and a beer garden on-site for the market.

Airdrie Christmas Show 2017

Shop from a range of handmade items at the seventh annual Airdrie Christmas Show. The two-day show takes place on Friday, November 3 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

24th Annual Chestermere Christmas Craft Sale 

Shoppers have been visiting this annual market since 1993, although Crazy4Crafts took over in 2010. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., meet the artisans, buy holiday decorations and Christmas gifts (you’ll find handmade products like quilts, crocheted clothing, toys and jewellery) and enter to win draws for $25 in CrazyBucks. These can be redeemed at any vendor.

Crossfield Christmas Market

Visit this annual Christmas market in Crossfield to do some shopping for the holidays. There will be more than 100 vendors selling artisanal and food items. You'll also find the Perogy Boyz food truck on site. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Alberta Dames Modern Vintage Market

This one-day market runs in Cochrane from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be early bird tickets for 100 shoppers who want to get started an hour before everyone else. More than 50 vendors will be at the market selling vintage and handmade goods. There will also be food vendors. Some of the admission proceeds will support the Quinns Legacy.

Hillhurst/Sunnyside Christmas Market

This popular neighbourhood Christmas market returns to the Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association on November 4. The market is full of local, handmade items, and you'll probably find yourself leaving with lots of home decor items, textiles, jewellery and more. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Peace By Piece Christmas Market

This is the second year that the Peace By Piece Christmas Market has taken place, and it's a great spot to do some holiday shopping. This year, vendors include the Acadian Heart Soap Company, Red Tartan Shortbread, Mulberry Preserves, Darke and Divine, Urban Squirrel Creations and more. The market is also accepting non-perishable food donations for the Veterans Food Drive. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

What a Woman Wants for Christmas

Do some shopping for the women in your life at this Christmas market in Marda Loop. Shop from more than 35 local vendors for items such as beauty products, jewellery, apparel and more. The Saturday market runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is also a preview of the market on Friday, November 3 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Springbank Christmas Market

This festive craft sale is a great spot to shop for handmade crafts and artwork. You'll find items like apparel, paintings, holiday wreaths and more. Parking is free at the event, too.

Mount Pleasant Potters' Guild Fall Sale

This non-profit guild is holding its fall pottery sale on November 5. There will be around 30 local potters offering pieces at the sale, which range from wood and salt fired pottery to decorative pottery pieces. The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Millarville Christmas Market

Back for a 30th year, this Christmas market is sure to give you all the seasonal feelings. Shop at the vendors’ booths indoors and outdoors, and you’ll probably go home with baked goods and handmade gifts such as pottery, stained glass pieces, apparel and jewellery. You can also spend the day enjoying hay rides, roasted chestnuts, carolers, music and glass blowing demonstrations. And you can take the kids for their photo with Santa.

MarketSquare's Christmas Festival in Okotoks

More than 135 artists and small businesses will be on-site for this annual curated Christmas market in Okotoks. You'll find jewellery, apparel, ceramics, artwork, bath products and much more at this curated market. There will be free activities for children, caroling and Santa will be there for photos, too. The market's open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. This year, there will also be a second market location at Elks Hall in Okotoks.

Fort Calgary Holiday Artisan's Fair

This is Fort Calgary's 15th annual artisan fair. The holiday event will feature a Remembrance Day ceremony as well as a market with more than 60 local vendors. Shop for art, food items like preserves, glasswork, apparel and more.

Off Cut Culture Club

If you're near The Nash & Off Cut Bar on a Saturday, you could also do a little bit of shopping there. The Inglewood restaurant recently launched the Off Cut Culture Club, a pop-up series that features a different local vendor in the Off Cut bar every week. The series runs on Saturdays between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. until November 18. Order a happy hour drink and shop, or just pop in to check out upcoming vendors like Drizzle Honey on November 11 and EVSTENROOS on November 18.

Art Market Art and Craft Sale

This is one of the biggest art and craft sales in the city and you’ll find great gifts here that you won’t find at any other market because of its diversity. Around 200 artisans from across Canada sell everything from jewellery to ceramics to furniture. There will also be reduced parking rates during the event. And, there is two-for-one admission on Thursday and Friday evenings from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

ACAD Show + Sale

See what Calgary’s up-and-coming young artists have been producing at this bi-annual show and sale. During this public retail event, browse handmade pieces and admire the student body’s talent. Whatever your preferred art form, you’ll find it here: there will be jewellery, paintings, fibre pieces, ceramics and more. All proceeds from the event go towards the ACAD student body. 

The pre-event on November 16, called The Show + Sale First Night Fundraiser, runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and costs $25. There will be snacks from Goro + Gun and National that night. The regular weekend market takes place on Friday and Saturday and is admission by donation.

Crestmont Christmas Market

Get a head start on your holiday shopping at this weekend Christmas market. Running from November 17 to 19, the Crestmont Christmas Market will feature around 25 vendors selling artwork, wooden home decor pieces, jewellery, Indigenous crafts and more. If you get hungry, grab a bite at the Arepas Ranch food truck that will be on-site at the market. 
The market runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Balzac Christmas Market

The annual Balzac Christmas Market is the perfect spot to pick up some gifts for your loved ones. Shop the market's two levels for items like baking, knitting and woodworking while listening to music by the Chinook Winds Show Chorus and Jazzed Up Events. Little ones can also get their photo taken with Santa. If you get hungry, you can visit the Don Panino food truck, which will be at the event. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Silver Springs Christmas Crafter's Market

This annual Christmas craft market in Silver Springs welcomes many local vendors selling handcrafted items. Browse the jewellery, soaps, artwork, crocheted items, accessories and more. Bring along a non-perishable food item to donate as well. This market runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

New Brighton's Annual Christmas Market

Get your holiday shopping done at New Brighton's Annual Christmas Market, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 18. Shopping isn't the only thing you can do here though — there will be a skate swap and you can even get your purchases gift wrapped while you're there. There will also be a BeaverTails and Perogy Boyz food trucks at the market.

Winter Greens and Festive Lights Christmas Market

Get in the holiday spirit by shopping for baked goods, jams, beautiful gifts and more at this one-day Christmas market. There will also be a Christmas Cafe at the event in case you get hungry or thirsty. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Southern Alberta Art Alliance 2017 Fall Art Show

Decorate your home with a new piece of art from the Southern Alberta Art Alliance. At their fall show, you will find localy made pieces in a range of mediums and styles. There is free parking at the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

24th Annual Blessed Cardinal Newman Christmas Market

Listen to musical performances while shopping at the 24th Annual Blessed Cardinal Newman Christmas Market. The market, which is held at the local elementary/junior high school, will have more than 100 vendors. Shop for items such as jewellery, baking and crafts during this one-day event. There will also be a coffee shop where you can grab some java to fuel your shopping. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Edgemont Holiday Craft Sale

Head to the Edgemont Community Association on November 18 to shop from more than 80 local vendors at this holiday craft sale. Pick up some Christmas baking, artwork, crafts, woodworking and more. There will also be a snack bar at the event. The craft sale runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Handmade Here Artist Collective Holiday Show and Sale

Artists from Calgary and the surrounding area sell their prints, ceramics, paintings, textiles, jewellery and more at Handmade Here's Christmas sale. Shop the work of 25 artisans and artists including Alice Helwig, Jim Etzkorn, Jenna Firschke, Jill Nuckles and Karen Scarlett. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lake Bonavista Christmas Craft Fair

The community Christmas craft fair at Lake Bonavista sells a range of products created by local artisans, including knitting, baking and soaps. In the multi-purpose room, you'll also find items that aren't from crafters, like Pampered Chef and Tupperware. The market runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bragg Creek Artisans Christmas Sale

Escape the city for your arts and crafts shopping. More than 65 local artists showcase their handicrafts and artwork at this sale, which is back for its 40th year. There will also be lunch and snacks served in the country kitchen café. This market is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the whole weekend.

Cochrane Christmas Market

Banff Christmas Market

Make a weekend getaway out of this market in Banff, where you can shop for handmade gifts, listen to caroling and dine on great food. Expect gift cards, artwork, food products, apparel, home decor and more. Santa will also be there for photos and the Banff Trail Riders will be taking guests on guided sleigh rides (book on-site).

Artisan Winter Market

This one-day Christmas market in Inglewood will host a variety of vendors selling items like vintage decor, jewellery, upcycled furniture and candles. When you're done finding the perfect Christmas gift, be sure to treat yourself to some of the holiday treats being sold at the event or visit the on-site food truck.

Distinctly Nanton Christmas Market

Its old-world charm makes Nanton the perfect destination to shop for handmade gifts. Just a 40-minute drive away, find a range of products that make great gifts, as well as vendors that are unique to Nanton. There will also be a concession stand. This one-day market takes place during Nanton Lights the Way.

Little Modern Market

The goal of Little Modern Market is to bring the vibe and energy of downtown arts markets into the suburbs. This holiday edition of Little Modern Market is at Rally Pointe. Shop at vendors' booths for kids and baby clothes, decor, art, jewellery, paper products, florals and more. The fall market saw more than 30 vendors participate

Shawnessy Christmas Craft Fair

This Christmas craft fair has been around for more than a decade. While it only took place on one day last year, it's expanding to two days this year. That means you'll have more time to shop the fair's two floors, which feature more than 30 vendors offering handmade products. The market froms from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.

Calgary Expo Holiday Market

This is probably the most nerdy holiday market you'll stumble upon all season, and that's a good thing. This holiday market is presented by the team behind the Calgary Expo, so expect all your geeky shopping and art needs to be met. Local retailers, vendors and artists sell comics, toys, collectibles, toys and art. Costumes are of course encouraged. If you donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, you can also take a photo with Santa.

22nd Canmore Christmas Artisans’ Market

At the end of November, more than 80 local artists will be offering paintings, photography, pottery, furniture and more at this Canmore market. There will also be food vendors. The admission fee supports the Canmore Preschool Society. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.

Markets in November


Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market

This market is taking place over three weekends starting in mid-November and running into December. Find imported gifts and handmade items that are perfect for your loved ones at the indoor and outdoor venues. More than 250 vendors are on-site and there will also be live music performances and dance displays.

Spirit of Christmas Art Show and Sale at the Okotoks Art Gallery

The Okotoks Art Gallery transforms into a holiday shopping venue until December 21. Stop by and find items like holiday ornaments, cards, jewellery and original artwork. Perhaps the best part? All the products available for sale at the market are under $200. There will also be a "Tree of Warmth", which guests can decorate with items like toques, socks or gloves that will be donated to charity.

Curated Holiday Market

The Curated Holiday Market runs over four different weekends in November and December. If you don't find what you want at one of the market weekends, you can always pop by again the next weekend since there will be completely different vendors at each one. Shop from 85 vendors from across Western Canada every weekend (so a total of 340 vendors over the course of the month). The markets will also feature free children's workshops, photos with Santa, entertainment and more.

Market Collective

If you haven't started your Christmas shopping yet, don't worry — Market Collective is here for you. The local artisan market returns for three weekends in December as part of its holiday MC Cheer series. In addition to featuring the work of local artisans, there will be live music, food trucks and interactive features at the markets. Shop concrete home decor from Concrete Cat, wood and resin earrings from Prismatic Wood, wooden puzzles by StumpCraft and more.

2017 Christmas Market hosted by Foothills Alliance Women's Ministry

At this morning market, shop at around 50 vendor tables selling jewellery and other handmade items. At 10:45 a.m., there is a 40-minute inspirational program. There will also be some complimentary treats and hot drinks like coffee, cider and tea. Childcare is also available here from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for $7 per mom.

Festival of Crafts

More than 250 artisans from across Canada convene at Stampede Park to sell their gorgeous handmade goods at the Festival of Crafts. The market showcases work by artists, artisans and designers — you'll be able to find clothing, food products, artwork, glassware, bath products and much more for everyone on your Christmas list.

Urbi et Orbi Fine Art Christmas Market 2017

Art always makes for a great Christmas gift, so why not pick some up at the Urbi et Orbi Fine Art Christmas Market. During the one-day event, local artisans will be selling sculptures, paintings, photography, glasswork, jewellery and more at the Meadowlark Park Community Association. The market runs from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Not Your Mother's Bazaar

Get your holiday shopping done at this arts and crafts sale in the Rosemont neighbourhood. There will plenty of linocut prints, fibre art, scarves, ceramics, paintings and more to choose from. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Authentically Indigenous Craft Show Holiday Edition

Shop for jewellery, crafts, quilts, gifts and artwork made by Indigenous artists at the holiday edition of the Authentically Indigenous Craft Show. This is the third year the market has taken place and there will be more than 30 vendors to check out. Seeds of Enrichment's 3rd Annual Christmas Market

This Christmas market is a fundraiser for Seeds of Enrichment, a not-for-profit organization that supports impoverished villages by providing horticulture and agriculture support and promoting education and health. Taking place in the Canmore Miners' Union Hall, there will also be live Christmas music playing as you shop at the various vendors here. This is the third year this annual market has taken place.

When: Dec. 9 and 10, 2017

Cost: Free admission


Marketspot Winter Pop-Up Shop

Shop local at Southcentre Mall by visiting the Marketspot Winter Pop-Up Shop. Held in the mall's Centre Court area, the market will be full of baby products, artwork, jewellery and more. All the products are made by local small businesses and artisans. The market runs from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

When: Dec. 14 to 17, 2017
Where: Southcentre Mall, 100 Anderson Rd. S.E.
Cost: Free admission
