“True personal style is all about confidence. When you exude confidence, you’ll look more put together, no matter what you’re wearing.”

Choosing a flattering outfit to wear to work is hard enough, but TV personality Jenny Steele has the added challenge of needing to look chic on camera. With eight years of experience under her belt, the host of Alberta Roots and Report to Calgarians and panellist on Celebrity Style Story and Hollywood’s 10 Best loves bright solid colours, classic cuts, statement jewellery and playing with contrast.

“If I’m wearing a masculine blazer, I’ll make sure my hair and makeup is super-feminine,” Steele says.

Unlike the stars she celebrates and critiques on E’s Celebrity Style Story, Steele has never had a stylist, does her own hair and makeup and found her signature look through trial and error. “In early footage, I’m wearing earrings, a necklace, bracelets, it was too much,” Steele says. “I tried to emulate the other hosts, but then I realized that it was about looking like myself.”

Steele shops at Holt Renfrew, BCBG Max Azria, Aritzia, H&M and Topshop and feels the most like herself in her weekend wardrobe: a pair of skinny jeans, ankle boots and a leather jacket.

Steele loves Kate Hudson’s sophisticated, yet sexy look, but credits her mother-in-law for expanding her fashion horizons. “She bought me my favourite Prada red patent leather clutch,” Steele says. “She’s been a huge influence on my fashion and is one of the most stylish ladies I know.”
